The Magic Roast x 'Still Any Good?' Podcast
I joined Rob Johnson and Chris Webb of the 'Still Any Good?' movie podcast to talk coffee, and Space Jam!
I was absolutely honored to be asked to join Robert Johnson and Christopher Webb on the ‘Still Any Good?’ podcast - a show that “runs the risk of ruining our childhoods by revisiting fondly remembered films.”
The movie I chose was the 1996 film, Space Jam, featuring the legend that is Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny!.
Why choose Space Jam?
Space Jam holds a special place in my heart, given it featured a few things that in the mid-90s were absolutely everywhere - the Looney Tunes and Michael Jordan mania.
Jordan was just coming back from his baseball experiment, and about to take the Chicago Bulls back to the top. This movie came along at just the right time to make the most of all of this - and make a ton of money in the process!
I remember this movie so fondly, that I leapt at the chance to watch it for the first time in 35 years.
Gin, Tonic and Decaf
To make it somewhat relevant to The Magic Roast, I had to send Rob and Chris a cheeky wee coffee treat to wet their whistles - a GTnD - gin, tonic and decaf cold brew.
Of course the decaf I chose to be the hero of this GTnD, was Grey Roasting Co’s Jairo Arcila Rainbow Decaf - a coffee that I still can’t get enough off, and works so well as a cold brew - and with gin and tonic!
Thankfully, Rob and Chris loved this wee little treat and it really set the scene for a great trip down memory lane.
Why a decaf?
Decaf is having it’s time in the sun as we experience an anti-caffeine movement.
I recently took a deep dive down the decaf road and spoke to some really interesting people - including Matt Heath (Newstalk ZB, ACC, Deja Voodoo, Back of the Y), Asher Wilson-Goldman (COVID-19 comms god), Zoë Milo (Grey Roasting Co) and Alice Burton (John Burton).
Are we having an anti-caffeine moment? Part 1
This is part 1 of a 2 parter. There was a lot of really interesting stuff to cover which I really wanted you, the reader, to enjoy.
Does Space Jam still slap?
Now, did Space Jam live up to the billing? You’ll have to go and listen to find out!
You can listen to Still Any Good? on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and more!
Thanks to ‘Still Any Good?’
A huge thanks to Rob and Chris for inviting me along to be a part of of episode 140.
I had a huge amount of fun that you can hear throughout the recording - lots of laughter, chuckles and banter!
‘Still Any Good?’ has a massive back catalog of episodes that are are well worth checking out. A few of my favs includes Fight Club (with James Trevena), Con Air (with Jamie Wall), The Goonies (with Jason Gunn) and Face/Off.
