The World AeroPress champs are this weekend!
This weekend, the World AeroPress champs are being held in Melbourne.
Across the course of 2023, over 4,500 competitors from 50 countries have duked it out to be in the final. Including New Zealand’s own Akio Teramoto!
In an interview with Yellow Rooster Coffee, Akio shared his secret to brewing a good AeroPress:
This event is the 15-year anniversary of the Worlds, which started in the back of a café in Oslo. From those weird and humble beginnings, the champs has taken on a life of it’s own!
Good luck to Akio has he takes on the world’s best! Keep an eye on his partner’s Instagram for updates (yeah, Hanna Teramoto will be a name that sounds familiar - she’s the 2022 NZ Barista Champ!)

It’s the silly season – your coffee gift buying guide
The legend that is James Hoffmann has cracked it once again. This time with a great gift buying guide for coffee lovers.
This isn’t a ‘buy this specific thing’ list, rather, it’s a guide to how to approach buying coffee gifts. This will help you work through the gift buying decisions, no matter where they are in their coffee hobby, and at a range of price points.
The video also includes a list of things to avoid buying!
Excellent stuff from the Hoffboy – and we’d expect nothing less from this guy.
Science alert: Coffee might prevent COVID-19
Here’s a yarn that is taking the coffee world by storm:
“In a new study published recently in the journal Cell & Bioscience, researchers from Taiwan find that drinking coffee can have a pretty big impact on reducing the chances of catching COVID-19.”
It’s still early days, and the full extent of the impact of coffee and how it stops a coffee infection still aren’t known, it’s yet another reason to not give up the daily cup of joe. Legend.
Of course, a daily cup of coffee is no replacement for the COVID-19 vaccine/boosters; washing ya damn hands; masking up if you need to; staying home when you’re sick.
