Holy moly whack a mole it’s time for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup!
For the next four weeks, your Things you should know will contain at least one Women’s World Cup update, news or stat, alongside your regular caffeine hit.
Why? Because it’s the biggest sporting event Aotearoa will ever host, and it’s worthy of being celebrated.
So buckle up - here are things you need to know this week:

Sure, it misses some other incredible coffee spots, but as a silly little list, it’s not a bad one to share with your friends. Particularly if they got inspired by that Spinoff tour of all of the Mojos in Wellington.
FIFA Women’s World Cup - breaking ground already
New Zealand and Australia are hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup, which kicks off this week.
The tournament is going to be record breaking and set some new highs for the beautiful game.
Here are just a few of the key things you need to know:
The first time the tournament is being hosted in the Southern Hemisphere.
It’s also the first time the tournament is being co-hosted.
It’s the biggest Women’s World Cup ever - with 32 teams playing 64 games for the very first time.
This World Cup is set to smash the previous records for attendance, already selling more tickets than in France 2019.
It’s one of the most watched sporting events in the world. The France 2019 set a record with an audience of over 1.12 billion people (and this World Cup is going to smash that number). That put it at number six of the biggest sporting events, only beaten by:
